California’s Contaminated Water Crisis

Water Official’s URGE Homeowners To Filter Their Own Water

California’s water supply is exposing millions of the Golden State’s residents to potentially significant health risks.

The problem is not isolated to any particular area and even people who get their water from well’s aren’t safe from the pollutants and toxins that have leached into the ground water.

Across the state some of the more common pollutants include:

  • Arsenic
  • Uranium
  • Nitrates
  • Lead
  • Trihalomethanes
  • Trichlorethylene

“Looking at the data, we’re definitely concerned about water quality in Southern California. We recommend utilities really look at their processing. There’s much room for improvement,” said Olga Naidenko, a senior scientist at the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit environmental watchdog based in Washington, D.C., and a co-author of the report.

“We recommend residents get water filters.”

“The nation’s tap water has been compromised by weak federal safeguards and pitiful protection of drinking water supplies,” said Jane Houlihan, senior vice president for research at Environmental Working Group, in a statement.

While the City Of Los Angeles was ranked just 83rd out of 100 cities, other Californian cities didn’t fare much better.

In San Diego it was recently exposed by more than 3,00 people don’t have safe tap water and many more are exposed to chemicals and pollutants that are well above sale levels set by the EPA.

NBC San Diego Reported: “Because the state data doesn’t account for the nearly 2 million Californians still relying on private wells or factor in contamination from Chromium-6, experts said the number of people with toxic water is likely even higher.”

The issues with elevated toxin levels in the water supply is more than just a California problem. It is a national epidemic.

Over the past 5 years, the environmental group examined over 20 Million tap water quality tests that were performed by 48,000 water utilities.

The Result is that the US drinking supply contains over 316 chemical pollutants, most of them are not subject to health and safety regulations, according to the study researchers.

The EPA doe have regulations for roughly 1/3 of them.

Buying bottled water can give a false sense of security.

Most bottled waters come from plants that are located in communities with compromised water supplies and they are not necessarily filtering for these toxins.

The ONLY way to be sure that your water supply is safe, clean, fresh, and pure, is to filter your own water.

The upshot: American drinking water contained a potentially toxic soup of 316 chemical pollutants, most of them not subject to health and safety regulations, according to researchers. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has set enforceable standards for a third of them.
